Photos That Were Worth the Wait
A Meaningful Fall Family Session at Harlinsdale Farm
I first met Ella back in college through a mutual friend, and like so many friendships that begin in that season of life, time and distance pulled us into different chapters. She moved away to Kentucky, started her family, and we hadn’t seen each other in years—but this year, we finally reconnected.
When she moved back to the area, I was so happy to see her again—and even more honored when she asked me to photograph her family. We’d been trying to plan a session since the spring, but as life often goes, things kept getting delayed. Schedules shifted, seasons passed, and we finally made it happen in late fall.
We met at Harlinsdale Farm in Franklin, TN—a spot that offers so much room to roam and a calm, open feel that’s perfect for letting kids just be themselves.
But sometimes the timing that doesn’t go to plan ends up being exactly right. The air was cool, the light was soft, and it felt like the perfect time to finally make this session happen.
Her two little ones are full of life and personality—curious, sweet, energetic, and completely themselves. And like most young kids, standing still and smiling on command just isn’t on their agenda. The good news? It’s not on mine either.
During family sessions, I plan for movement and play on purpose. Because real smiles don’t usually come from “say cheese”—they come from tickle fights, running into mom and dad’s arms, or covering their eyes while mom and dad sneak a kiss. All those little in-between moments make the portraits feel alive.
And yes, even with all the movement and play, we still get those classic shots—the ones you’ll frame and send to family. It’s all part of the rhythm that helps families relax, be themselves, and walk away with photos that feel like them.
Every gallery tells a story, and this one is layered with love, growth, energy, and tenderness. I’m so thankful I got to photograph this family—knowing how meaningful these images will be to look back on years from now.
One day, their little voices will sound different, their legs will stretch longer, and this season—the way they held hands or leaned into their mama—will only be visible in photographs.
These photos are a way of saying: this mattered. This chapter was worth remembering.
